Accessing Fresh Oil through Praise and Thanksgiving!

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High. To shew forth thy loving kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. …But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of a unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil (Psalms 92:1-2, 10).

From scriptures, we discover that thanksgiving and praise are covenant platforms through which we encounter fresh oil from God, among others. For instance, David, the praise giant, praised God seven times a day and God speaking of him, said: I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him. The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him (Psalms 89:20-23; see also Psalms 119:164).

This helps us to understand that God is the ‘Anointer’ with fresh oil, but we cannot access His presence without engaging the mystery of thanksgiving and praise. That is why the Bible admonishes us to enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise… (Psalms 100:4).

It is also important to know that fresh oil here connotes the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit and without Him, we cannot fulfil God’s plans and purposes for our lives. Concerning Jesus, the Bible says: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him (Acts 10:38; see also Isaiah 61:1-3).

This means that when we praise and thank God, His presence is invoked and He pours the anointing of the Holy Spirit on us for fulfilment of our destinies in Christ Jesus (Psalms 100:4, 23:5-6; 34:1).

But, what is in the Anointing of the Holy Ghost?

From scriptures, we understand that the anointing of the Holy Spirit engenders our access to the following:

Supernatural victory: The anointing empowers us to conquer in any situation that may confront us. For instance, by the anointing upon Christ, the scripture records that every demon possessed person He encountered trembled saying: “Have You come to destroy us before our time?” (Psalms 92:10-11; Acts 10:38).

Vision: This is the ability to see into God’s plan and purpose for our lives, and fresh oil engenders our unhindered access. Thus, when we are challenged, the enemy simply wants to rob us of the treasures that await us in future. However, when we engage in praise and thanksgiving, God anoints us with fresh oil and our vision of the future is enhanced (Joel 2:1-11, 28).

Revelation: The anointing of the Holy Ghost also grants us access to revelation, which is the spiritual understanding of God’s Word. As it is written:
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10; see also John 14:26; Isaiah 60:1-22).

Wisdom: This is an unusual insight into doing what it takes for things to work. Nevertheless, to keep things working at all times, we must never lack fresh anointing of the Holy Ghost. For instance, when Solomon worshipped God with a thousand burnt offerings on Mount Gibeon, God made Him the wisest man in his days. However, when he began to worship other gods, his anointing became stale and his wisdom was turned to foolishness (1 Kings 3:3-12; 1 Kings 4:29-34; Isaiah 11:1-3; Ecclesiastes 1:2).
There is nothing in the world that compares with divine insight (wisdom); therefore, we must constantly thank and praise God, for the continuous flow of fresh oil.

Divine protection: The anointing sets a seal of protection over our lives against every form of evil. As it is written: When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people; He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm (Psalms 105:13-15; Isaiah 10:25-27, 59:19).

The Spirit of Love: The fresher the oil on our heads, the “hotter” our love for God which makes us living wonders on earth. It is written: …because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us (Romans 5:5; see also 2 Timothy 1:7; 1 Corinthians 2:9).
Thus, it takes fresh oil to love God at all times, the situation or circumstances notwithstanding. This is because under the influence of fresh oil, we become addicted to God and ignore all alternatives.

It delivers from dryness: From the opening scriptures, we understand that thanksgiving and praise engenders our access to fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit. In subsequent verses, the Bible states: The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing (Psalms 92:12-14).
A researcher once said that every part of a palm tree is an asset. This implies that when we come in contact with fresh oil, every aspect of our lives becomes profitable. Also, we all know that the cedar is the tallest among trees; thus, fresh oil empowers us to scale great altitudes, supernaturally. Furthermore, according to the above scripture, we are ordained for fruitful lives under the influence of fresh oil.

The oil of joy: Speaking of Jesus, the Bible says: Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows (Psalms 45:6-7).
From the above scripture, we discover that the anointing upon Christ is called the oil of gladness, which empowered Him to rejoice in the Spirit at all times. As it is written: In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth… (Luke 10:21).

That means it takes the anointing to access joy and the Bible says that with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation (Isaiah12:3).

Therefore, with the anointing we have access to joy and that in turn grants us access to divine strength, health and vitality (Deuteronomy 28:46-48; Nehemiah 8:10; Psalms 84:7; Proverbs 17:22; 18:14; Matthew 3:11-13; Romans 8:11).

However, it is important to know that depression never adds value to our lives, it only erodes them. Also, it doesn’t provide a solution to our struggles; instead, it complicates them. This is because when we complain in a seemly negative situation, the anointing on our lives runs dry and the situation grows worse. For instance, after Elijah complained to God that Jezebel had killed all the prophets except him, his oil began to run dry and he contemplated suicide. This helps us to know that irrespective of our status or calling, whenever we complain, our oil (anointing) becomes stale. Therefore, we must jealously guard the oil on our heads and never allow it to run dry; and one way to do so is by celebrating God at all times (1 Kings 19:1-4; Ecclesiastes 9:8).

A fulfilled life: It is interesting to know that David saw prophecies fulfilled, despite King Saul’s threats. In that account, the Bible states that David was anointed king in 1 Samuel 16, enthroned at the age of 30 in 2 Samuel 5:10 and reigned for 40 years because he kept the oil (the oil of gladness) upon his life, fresh. Therefore, we must praise and thank God at all times like David, if we want to experience his order of breakthroughs, the adversaries notwithstanding (Psalms 34:1, 119:164; 1 Samuel 16:13; 2 Samuel 5:4).
In addition, it is important to know that the mystery of the Anointing oil is another channel through which we can partake of anointing of the Holy Spirit. As it is written: Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward (1 Samuel 16:13).

Let’s note that the anointing oil is a chemical product prepared by a certified chemist, but when ministered upon spiritually, it becomes a mystery. That is, the Holy Spirit comes upon it and it becomes a medium for signs and wonders (Mark 6:7, 12-13; James 5:14-15).

For instance, when David was anointed with oil and the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, his destiny opened up. As a result, he experienced a change of level from tendering sheep in the desert, to dining with the king in the palace. Not only that, he brought down the head of Goliath after killing him, became a national hero and a celebrity at 17. In other words, everything about David changed after he was anointed.

But, what is in the Anointing Oil?

Among the mysteries in the anointing oil is the Spirit of the Lord: As it is written: Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward (1 Samuel 16:13).
The yoke-breaking power of God: And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing (Isaiah 10:27).

The healing power of God: The Bible says: And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits. And they went out, and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them (Mark 6:7, 11-12).

The mystery of the Fan and the fire: This is ordained to purge our physical bodies of every sickness, disease and all oppressions of the devil. That is why when John the Baptist was describing Jesus to His disciples, he said: I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire (Matthew 3:11-12; see also 1 Corinthians 6:19; Ephesians 4:4-5).
This means that when we take a shot of the anointing oil, the Spirit of the Lord goes into our bodies with a fan and fire in His hand. There, He cleanses and burns off everything that buffets or torments our lives.

How do we apply the Anointing Oil?

We can apply the oil on our foreheads or any part(s) of our bodies that is hurting. It is written: Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord (James 5:14).
Taking a shot of the Oil will root out the oppression of the devil in our bodies (Matthew 3:11-13; Romans 8:11; Matthew 15:13; Acts 10:38).
We can also anoint places and things, thereby setting a divine seal on them and keeping the devil at bay (Exodus 30:26-29).
In conclusion, it is important to know that all that is required to make the most of our journey on earth is domiciled in fresh oil. However, fresh oil can only be accessed in God’s presence, and His presence is accessible in thanksgiving and praise, among others. Therefore, we must continually appreciate God, if we desire to remain freshly anointed. As you engage the mystery of praise, the anointing of the Holy Spirit shall continually be fresh on your life in Jesus’ name! Remain ever blessed!
